Brethren from Chongwe mission station and Lusaka Baptist Church were present to celebrate the ground-breaking launch of the church construction project on November 18, 2017. The work at Chongwe mission station began in April 2014 in order to meet the need to start a reformed work in Chongwe town.

A preaching point was established and the saints currently meet for a Sunday worship service in one of the classrooms at Chongwe Primary School. By God’s grace, the work has steadily been growing in size and the current meeting room is increasingly becoming inadequate and so the launch of the construction of the church building was a great milestone for the mission station.

The new church sits on a 54 by 28 meters plot and the church building will take up 35 by 21 meters and have a seating capacity of 300 people. The design is that of a complex with the main sanctuary in the middle and other offices and facilities around it. The total cost of the structure was estimated to be slightly under one million Kwacha.

The construction will take a phased approach. Phase one, which has already been completed, involved the demolition of a structure which was on the plot. The plan is to build the foundation of the church, erect the steel frame and place the roof of the structure to enable the church to start meeting in the structure.

“Despite the many challenges faced, God has been gracious and we are humbled that God has greatly blessed the work Chongwe these past three years,” General Moses Phiri said when giving the vote of thanks. He further encouraged the brethren to continue supporting the work through with their presence in Chongwe, our prayers and financial support. General Phiri ended by announcing that the name had finally been selected and the new Church will be called Chongwe Baptist Church.
