Who We Are

Lusaka Baptist Church is a Reformed Baptist Church founded in 1960. We are located on Lubu Road, in Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia, Southern Africa.

LBC is a reformed fellowship emphasizing the worship of the Triune God through prayer and the consistent, in-depth proclamation of His truth from the Holy Scriptures, holding to the 1689 London Baptist Confession.

The church itself includes members from all walks of life, and diverse ethnic and national origins. You can learn more about us by reading through what we believe, our history, and our ministries.

Pastor Ronald Kalifungwa

Senior Pastor & Elder

Pastor Ronald Kalifungwa is the full-time pastor and part of the eldership at Lusaka Baptist Church. Ronald was brought up a Roman Catholic and believed for a long time that he was a Christian, until in 1981 he was convicted of his sinful state under the preaching of God’s word at Lusaka Baptist Church, and was born again.

While studying mechanical engineering in Ndola in the early eighties, Ronald felt the call to the ministry. Upon completion of his education and working for a time at a secular job, he felt increasingly burdened to enter full-time ministry.

He began his life of ministry at Fairview Baptist Church in Mufulira, from where he moved to Lynwood in South Africa. Ronald has been in full-time ministry for over 20 years. Ronald is married to Sarah and together they have three boys: Mumba, Kunda, and Chisomo.

Our History

1956 – The Beginning

While the idea of a Baptist fellowship was taking shape, the President of the Baptist Union of South Africa, Rev R. H Philpot, was passing through Lusaka en route to the Copperbelt province. He was happy to formally set apart the four adults and two baby girls in the presence of the Lord, to form the Lusaka Baptist Church Fellowship.

Early Years – Perseverance

This small body of God’s people did not carry on for long, however, because Charles Kidwell had to relocate to Ndola to take up a new job, and while there, he forged links with Ndola Baptist Church. In God’s mysterious providence, after a year in Ndola, Charles decided to move back to Lusaka to rejoin Duly & Co. Ltd.

Growth – A Fellowship Revived

This gave new impetus to the idea of reviving the fellowship. Kidwell contacted more Baptists in the city, and they commenced a midweek fellowship meeting held in the Kidwell’s spacious lounge. Sunday services were held at the YMCA Hall on the corner of Cairo Road and Victoria Avenue (now Freedom Way).

A Permanent Home – Lubu Road

As the fellowship continued to grow, the need for its own premises became more urgent. By God’s grace, the Baptist Union of South Africa purchased premises on Lubu Road in Ridgeway – the very location where Lusaka Baptist Church still stands today.

What We Believe

Lusaka Baptist Church holds to the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith. We believe in the supreme authority of Scripture, the sovereignty of God in salvation, and the importance of the local church in God’s plan for His people.

Our worship is centered on the faithful preaching and teaching of God’s Word, the observance of the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and the fellowship of the saints.

Our Mission

We exist to glorify God by making disciples through the faithful preaching of the Gospel, the nurture of believers in biblical truth, and the extension of Christ’s kingdom through our mission stations across Zambia and beyond.

With 10 mission stations across 9 provinces and an international mission in Tanzania, we are committed to seeing Reformed Baptist churches planted and strengthened throughout the region.
